Waynetown Jan 17 -- H. W. DARNELL, 77, one of the prominent men of this community and widely related in Indiana, died at 3:30 this morning of the prevailing malady, la grippe. Mr. Darnell has suffered from heart trouble and was taken sick near Christmas time. He was, however, on the streets Saturday and it was thought that he was on the road to recovery. He was taken with lagrippe and the end came at the hour stated. The deceased was born in Hendrick Co, April 7, 1839, he has, however, lived in this community more than 50 years. His estimable helpmate died 4 years ago. He is survived by 8 children, 3 sons, five daughter who are: H. C., Claude and Fred in business in this city, Anna, Elsie and Lota, who are still home; Mrs. James Zuck of this place and Mrs. Will Thomas of LaCrosse, WI. Besides these, one sister, Mrs. Hattie James of Indianapolis and four brothers, Nathan of Louisville, Ky; WJ of Jamestown and James and Milton of Cloverdale survive. Mr. Darness joined the Baptist under the pastorate of CC Bowles in 1876. In all of his useful days, he lived in the faith and teachings of the Master. The funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church at this place, wed. afternoon and will be in charge of Rev. Duncan, the pastor. The burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
